Here she goes again

October 24, 2007

Logan’s day

NEW MARKET An encouraging shadow.  A familiar shadow.  A shadow that always lingered ahead of Luray’s Jenny Logan during a competitive Shenandoah District race - the almighty powerful Mariah Hagadone’s.

Experienced Bison look and act the part

NEW MARKET - The Buffalo Gap boys cross country team returned an experienced cast this season and at Wednesday’s Shenandoah District meet they both played and looked the part.

Indians sweep district meet

LEXINGTON - The Indians didn’t care about the rain anymore - they were too busy hoisting two trophies to notice.

R.E. Lee’s dream becomes a reality

Courtney Moyer couldn’t even make it to Robert E. Lee’s tent.

8-0 So Sweet

STUARTS DRAFT- It doesn’t take much for Tabitha Bowman to get angry.  Well, maybe just a 12-9 Rockbridge lead in Game 3.

Weren’t supposed to win

FISHERSVILLE They weren’t supposed to win the Shenandoah District.  No, really, they weren’t supposed to win. Not really impossible, but no respectable betting man would have put money on it.

Hornets clinch

FISHERSVILLE - It was all about teamwork Monday as Wilson Memorial beat Stonewall Jackson 25-15, 20-25, 25-18, 25-17 clinching the Shenandoah district title.

Draft ready to rumble

Losing the first two games against Fort Defiance on Sept. 20 was a tough pill to swallow for the Stuarts Draft volleyball team. It was the first time the Cougars had ever been that far in the gutter in a Southern Valley district match.

Gladiators fall to Generals

In volleyball action on Thursday, Riverheads lost 17-25, 25-21, 19-25, 12-25 to Stonewall Jackson in a Shenandoah District match in Quicksburg.

Green Hornets sweep Buffalo Gap

FISHERSVILLE - Forget the whole “Superman” thing and the not-so-easy-listening music that sparks the Wilson Memorial volleyball team.

Life with the libero

Aja Linton may be only 5-foot-2 inches tall but don’t let those little feet and delicate hands and arms fool you when she takes away a kill from the opposing team on the back row.

Not what we wanted

It’s a letter, not a form letter, written on Waynesboro High School letterhead. Much like all the positive letters a sports department gets (we call them “atta-boys” or “atta-girls”) it’s either hung in the cubicle or stowed away in a “happy place” for us to look at every now and again when we’re feeling blue.

Das Boot

Imagine a typical high school kicker.  A soccer player in football gear that just wanted to keep busy in the fall and usually is the butt of most people’s jokes.

Always a Gladiator

LEXINGTON - Four VMI Keydets walked slowly to the 50-yard line as “Little John” fired in the background.

Draft can’t get by Lee

STUARTS DRAFT - The playoff picture in the Southern Valley District got a little clearer on Friday night.

Little Giants gobbled up by Broadway

If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again.  That was the story for the Broadway offense after almost getting picked off by the Waynesboro defense twice in the first half.
