Lee wraps up 3rd title
FISHERSVILLE — Robert E. Lee cruised past Wilson Memorial in the final game of the regular season, taking a 35-17 win on Friday for Lee’s third straight Southern Valley district championship.
Giants ready for August
On Friday night the Waynesboro Little Giants traveled to Fort Defiance for their last game of the season and as the purple and gold headed to the locker room at halftime, down 25-0 and facing a 1-9 season, many Waynesboro supporters probably began wondering an all too familiar question: What will it take to return this once proud program to prominence?

HARRISONBURG — The Riverheads Gladiators swept their way past a tenacious Stonewall Jackson squad en route to the Shenandoah District tournament title on Thursday night, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.

FORT DEFIANCE – Fort Defiance successfully topped Stuarts Draft, though it wasn’t an easy or consistent match, winning in four games 30-28, 25-12, 25-27, 25-21 to gain the title of Southern Valley District tournament champions.

HARRISONBURG — Riverheads fought its way past Page County, winning the semifinal round of the Shenandoah District tournament in four games 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-15 on Wednesday.

TROUTVILLE — The Wilson Memorial Girls cross country team embraced its move to Group AA this season, dominating the Southern Valley District. On Wednesday, the Green Hornets faced their stiffest challenge to date at the Region III meet on Lord Botetourt’s demanding course.

Fishburne faces Mack Academy
After months of practice and anticipation, the Fishburne Military School Post Graduate basketball team will get its day on the court.
Today at 4:30 p.m., the Caissons will host Mack Academy for the team’s home opener, looking to start the program’s first season off with a win.

R’heads’ ground game runs wild
GREENVILLE — Riverheads running back Cory Sandridge scored five touchdowns on short and long runs Friday, keying the Gladiators to a 42-14 Shenandoah District victory over Stonewall Jackson.
Late turnovers stop Wilson
FISHERSVILLE — Jared Stipic recovered a fumble at Wilson’s four-yard line and Trevor Fisher had a late interception as Fort Defiance outlasted Wilson Memorial, 28-26 in a Southern Valley District football contest Friday night.
Draft wins the Battle
The Stuarts Draft Cougars continued their playoff push Friday night by defeating Waynesboro 34-7 to win the Battle for the Ball for the fourth consecutive year, spoiling the Little Giants senior night in the process.
Fishburne falls to JPG
Fishburne’s Chet Berry threw for 309 yards and scored four touchdowns, including one on the ground in the first half, but his impressive stats weren’t enough to help the Caissons survive the second.
Bison shock Central
SWOOPE — Matt Gregory’s 79-yard interception return for a touchdown as time expired in the first half, capped off a 21-point second quarter for Buffalo Gap. The Bison were able stop the heavy passing attack of Central of Woodstock, keeping the pass happy spread offense to just six points in a 28-6 win.
Lee tops Wildcats
After a scare from Fort Defiance last week, Robert E. Lee bounced back in a big way on Friday night, defeating Rockbridge County 34-7. Junior quarterback Devante White, who left last week’s game with an injury, played exceptionally for the Leemen, running for 179 yards and two touchdowns, while passing for another.

STAUNTON — Playing in front of a charged up crowd on senior night, the Robert E. Lee volleyball team downed Wilson Memorial in three games 25-11, 25-19, 26-24 in a match-up of two teams jockeying for position in next week’s Southern Valley District tournament.
