Augusta FC to host State Cup match

The Augusta FC under-17 Girls Red travel team will host the Loudon ’92 Girls Red team from Loudon Soccer in a first round Virginia Youth Soccer Association State Cup match. The game will be held at Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind on field No. 1 at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
The Virginia Youth Soccer Association State Championships is a state championship competition conducted annually for boys and girls teams in the under-12 through under-19 age groups. The VYSA State Cup is a a qualifying event for the Region 1 Championships and National Championships conducted by United States Youth Soccer.
Winners of the VYSA Championships advance to the Region 1 Championships, and in the under-14 to under-19 age groups, Region 1 winners advance to the United States Youth Soccer National Championships.
State Cup applicants are reviewed and selected by a committee based on their strength and previous accomplishments. The Augusta FC U17 girls were selected this year and seeded 19th out of 21 teams. They play their regular season games in the premier division of the Skyline League based in Charlottesville and are currently 3-0-0 in league play.
The team features four standouts from Wilson Memorial High School, four from Waynesboro High School, three from Stuarts Draft, three from Grace Christian and one each from Buffalo Gap, Riverheads and R.E. Lee.
