In Stuarts Draft, The Stuarts Draft volleyball team swept Broadway on Tuesday night 25-12, 25-15, 25-20 in a rescheduled, non-district match. The win improved the Cougars to 2-0 on the season.

SWOOPE — Trailing 13-7 in the decisive Game 5, Buffalo Gap went on a 10-2 run to close out the match, defeating Wilson Memorial in five games on Tuesday evening. Gap won the match 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 22-25, 17-15.

STAUNTON — After two tough losses to start the season, the Robert E. Lee volleyball team picked up its first win of the year with a 3-0 sweep of the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks 25-19, 25-19, 25-20.

GREENVILLE – Stuarts Draft defeated Riverheads in four games on Thursday, though the Gladiators didn’t make it an easy win for the Cougars who won 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21.

One match does not make a season, but it can provide some clues as to what lies ahead for a team.

In Buena Vista, the Buffalo Gap volleyball team lost 25-10, 25-15, 25-21 to Parry McClure on Tuesday night.

The Wilson Memorial volleyball team returned to the gym last week with renewed excitement for the fast-approaching season.

RICHMOND – After losing a 2-1 lead in last year’s Group A championship match against Strasburg, the Gate City volleyball team was dead set on not letting another trophy slip out of their hands in the rematch against the Rams.

Kala Guy didn’t get a chance to talk in the interview room simply because she wasn’t in there.

RICHMOND – After sweeping Strasburg on its home court in the Region B championship match, Wilson Memorial knew the Rams wanted revenge.

They could not be stopped. The seven seniors on Wilson Memorial’s volleyball team have been a force in the Shenandoah District and are ready for the big show.

Volleyball has been a love of Wilson Memorial’s Christine Coffield since she was a 10-year-old. The sport is in her blood and has been part of her family. Even her teammates have been part of that history.

It is time.

Noël Bartley’s grit and ability to dish out points faster then she can say her two favorite words: “It rocks,” has made her unlikable to opposing teams but lovable off the court by her team.

She didn’t even bat an eye or stop to think about it.
