GREENVILLE — Shenandoah District rivals Buffalo Gap and Riverheads squared off on the volleyball court Tuesday night, but more importantly the two teams joined hands together and took the fight to breast cancer in a match that benefited the Susan G. Komen Foundation. While both teams collaboratively raised awareness and support in the battle against breast cancer, the Gladiators came away victorious, staying perfect in the district with a three-game sweep over the Bison 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

STUARTS DRAFT — It looked like Wilson Memorial was going to spoil Stuarts Draft’s senior night after taking the opening game, but the five Draft seniors stood as one and defeated the Green Hornets in four games, 23-25, 25-9, 26-24 25-19.

In Lexington, Waynesboro needed five games to dispose of Rockbridge County on a rare Monday night edition of Southern Valley District volleyball.

FORT DEFIANCE — The Fort Defiance Indians volleyball team is quickly learning that a first-place district ranking brings much more than just accolades and high praise. That distinction also earns you the best shot your respective opponent can bring at you and that is exactly what they received from Robert E. Lee on Monday night.  And once again the Indians were up to the challenge, defeating Lee in four games 25-15, 25-20, 16-25, 25-8.

Game 3s have been a sticking point for the Waynesboro volleyball team, but in non-district action against Broadway on Thursday night it didn’t show.

In Stuarts Draft, the Stuarts Draft volleyball team squeaked out a win against Turner Ashby on Thursday night, taking it to five games.

FISHERSVILLE — For the first time since 1996, the rivalry between the storied volleyball programs of Stuarts Draft and Wilson Memorial again holds district ramifications. The former Skyline District members hooked up Tuesday night in a Southern Valley contest that saw the visiting Cougars win in a three-game sweep 25-21, 25-13, 25-20.

STAUNTON — Fort Defiance is on top of its game right now, and are playing together as a team at an important stage of the season. The Indians showed their skill making quick work of Robert E. Lee on Tuesday night, defeating the Lee Ladies in three games 25-11, 25-19, 25-21 in Southern Valley District volleyball action.

After taking the first two games with only a few minor hiccups, Waynesboro got a scare from Rockbridge County on Tuesday night in Game 3.

STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee wasn’t able to steal a game away from visiting Turner Ashby on Thursday night in a non-district match, falling 25-18, 25-19, 25-21.

FORT DEFIANCE — The Fort Defiance Indians continued to steamroll through the season on Thursday night, sweeping the Broadway Gobblers 25-16, 26-24, 25-15. There was no sign of fatigue from the Indians following Tuesday night’s epic five-game win over Southern Valley District rival Waynesboro.

In Harrisonburg, the Waynesboro volleyball team swept Harrisonburg on Thursday night 25-13, 25-9, 25-22 in non-district action.

In Penn Laird, the Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take their match against Spotswood 16-25, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-12 on Thursday night.

FISHERSVILLE — After trouncing the Lee Ladies in Game 1, Wilson Memorial lost much of its focus but hung on to take R.E. Lee in four, 25-16, 25-22, 19-25, 25-17 in a Southern Valley District match-up at the Hornet Hive on Tuesday.

FORT DEFIANCE — One year ago, it was Waynesboro winning in five games over Fort Defiance on the Indians’ home court. This year, Fort got their revenge, beating the Little Giants in five games 25-20, 25-15, 26-28, 23-25, 15-13 on Tuesday night.

STUARTS DRAFT – It was a battle of the titans on Thursday as Stuarts Draft clobbered its way past Riverheads, winning in five games 17-25, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 18-16 thanks to a total team effort from the Cougars.

STAUNTON — Nothing seemed to go right for Robert E. Lee on Wednesday evening, while Spotswood had their A game, sweeping Lee 25-10, 25-22, 25-14.

STUARTS DRAFT — After Stuarts Draft took the first two games of the match, Fort Defiance came roaring back to take three games and defeat the Cougars 25-27, 21-25 ,25-23, 25-14, 17-15 in Southern Valley District volleyball action on Tuesday evening.

A sign of a good team is winning when you don’t play your best. The Waynesboro Little Giants volleyball team did just that on Tuesday night, defeating Robert E. Lee 25-22, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, despite falling behind early in each of the first three games.

GREENVILLE — Parry McCluer dominated Riverheads on Monday, taking the match in four games winning 25-16, 22-25, 25-22, 25-14.

FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial proved that it has fight left on Monday night during a loss to Stonewall Jackson.

STAUNTON — Stuarts Draft brought a tough-nosed defense onto the court Thursday evening, defeating Robert E. Lee in four games in Southern Valley District play 25-12, 25-11, 24-26, 25-20.

FISHERSVILLE — Coming off a five-game loss to Stuarts Draft on Tuesday, Waynesboro went into Thursday’s Southern Valley contest at Wilson Memorial looking for a shot of momentum.

FISHERSVILLE — In an emotionally charged match the visiting Fort Defiance Indians got a 3-1 win over the host Hornets 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-14.

STUARTS DRAFT — Waynesboro gave the defending Southern Valley District champions a scare, winning two-straight games to take a 2-1 lead in the first game of the district season. With its back against the wall, Stuarts Draft rallied to win the next two games, including the clutch Game 5.

SWOOPE – With two missing starters, Parry McCluer took advantage of the young and inexperienced Buffalo Gap team on Tuesday, taking the win in three games 25-15, 25-23, 25-22.

GREENVILLE – Riverheads beat Wilson Memorial in three games 25-21, 25-23, 25-13 on Thursday, thanks in part to Kasey Hostetler’s unusual jump serve from the corner that appeared in the final game.

The Waynesboro volleyball team combined aggressive play at the net with crisp passing and a strong night at the service line to catch Turner Ashby off guard on Thursday night.

In Harrisonburg, The Stuarts Draft volleyball team swept Harrisonburg with little trouble on Thursday night winning 25-15, 25-11, 25-21.
