HARRISONBURG — It’s been quite a while since Riverheads has won a district championship in volleyball. Call it an extended 24-year ‘Coffey’ break.

HARRISONBURG — The Riverheads Gladiators swept their way past a tenacious Stonewall Jackson squad en route to the Shenandoah District tournament title on Thursday night, 25-21, 25-21, 25-23.

FORT DEFIANCE – Fort Defiance successfully topped Stuarts Draft, though it wasn’t an easy or consistent match, winning in four games 30-28, 25-12, 25-27, 25-21 to gain the title of Southern Valley District tournament champions.

FORT DEFIANCE — After being unable to clinch a spot in the Region III tournament on Tuesday, Waynesboro was found an opening thanks to a 25-9, 25-20, 25-17 sweep over the Rockbridge Wildcats in the consolation match of the Southern Valley District Tournament.

HARRISONBURG — Riverheads fought its way past Page County, winning the semifinal round of the Shenandoah District tournament in four games 25-20, 25-27, 25-19, 25-15 on Wednesday.

FORT DEFIANCE — Fort Defiance is one step away from completing a sweep of Southern Valley District honors. The Indians swept the Rockbridge Wildcats 25-21, 25-12, 25-23 on Tuesday night in a district semifinal match to advance to Thursday’s championship match against Stuarts Draft.

Draft earns spot in finals, Region tourney

Except for a brief lapse in Game 3, Waynesboro maintained enough momentum and focus to ward off upset-minded Robert E. Lee 3-1 in quarterfinal action of the Southern Valley Volleyball tournament Monday.

LEXINGTON — It was the end of the road for Wilson Memorial on Monday as Rockbridge took a win in four games, 25-17, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23 in the first round of the Southern Valley District tournament.

Fort Defiance capped off its Southern Valley District championship season with a four-game win on Thursday night to finish the year undefeated in the district.

SWOOPE – Riverheads, already named Shenandoah District champs, finished off the regular season with a solid win against Buffalo Gap 25-22, 25-14, 25-22 on Thursday, now keeping its record undefeated in the district.

STAUNTON — Playing in front of a charged up crowd on senior night, the Robert E. Lee volleyball team downed Wilson Memorial in three games 25-11, 25-19, 26-24 in a match-up of two teams jockeying for position in next week’s Southern Valley District tournament.

STAUNTON— The Waynesboro volleyball team continued its late-season surge Tuesday by defeating Robert E. Lee in three games 25-9, 27-25, 25-19. Despite a solid effort from the Lee Ladies, Waynesboro combined effort and execution to garner the sweep while building confidence as the postseason draws near.

GREENVILLE — Riverheads came into Tuesday’s volleyball match against Luray with a chance to wrap up the No. 1 seed in the Shenandoah District. With an undefeated record in district play, the Gladiators only needed to knock off the one-loss Bulldogs to clinch the top spot in the district.

Fort tops Draft in four to take No. 1 seed

Even while dealing with multiple injuries and illness, Waynesboro cruised past Wilson Memorial, winning in just three games 25-9, 25-21, 25-20 on Thursday.

In Woodstock, Central picked up its second Shenandoah District win on Thursday night, sweeping Buffalo Gap 25-29, 35-22, 25-18.

In Swoope, Buffalo Gap fell to Page County on Tuesday night, falling in all three games 25-14.

FORT DEFIANCE — Coaches will tell you that it’s not how you start, but how you finish that is important. That mantra applies to matches as well as seasons, and as Fort Defiance downed the visiting Wilson Memorial Hornets on Tuesday night in three game 25-21, 25-20, 25-13 the Indians let everyone know they will be finishing strong.

STAUNTON – Rockbridge easily swept Robert E. Lee in three games, winning 25-13, 25-20, 25-17 on Tuesday.

GREENVILLE — With less than two weeks remaining in the regular season the Riverheads Gladiators are cruising through their Shenandoah district schedule with ease. The Gladiators continued their undefeated mark in district play with a sweep over Central 25-17, 25-11, 25-16.

In Luray, the Buffalo Gap Volleyball team was one game away from earning its first Shenandoah District win of the year before Luray started to rally.

Little Giants senior leads team to 4-game win over TA

GREENVILLE — Shenandoah District rivals Buffalo Gap and Riverheads squared off on the volleyball court Tuesday night, but more importantly the two teams joined hands together and took the fight to breast cancer in a match that benefited the Susan G. Komen Foundation. While both teams collaboratively raised awareness and support in the battle against breast cancer, the Gladiators came away victorious, staying perfect in the district with a three-game sweep over the Bison 25-17, 25-16, 25-19.

STUARTS DRAFT — It looked like Wilson Memorial was going to spoil Stuarts Draft’s senior night after taking the opening game, but the five Draft seniors stood as one and defeated the Green Hornets in four games, 23-25, 25-9, 26-24 25-19.

In Lexington, Waynesboro needed five games to dispose of Rockbridge County on a rare Monday night edition of Southern Valley District volleyball.

FORT DEFIANCE — The Fort Defiance Indians volleyball team is quickly learning that a first-place district ranking brings much more than just accolades and high praise. That distinction also earns you the best shot your respective opponent can bring at you and that is exactly what they received from Robert E. Lee on Monday night.  And once again the Indians were up to the challenge, defeating Lee in four games 25-15, 25-20, 16-25, 25-8.

Game 3s have been a sticking point for the Waynesboro volleyball team, but in non-district action against Broadway on Thursday night it didn’t show.

In Stuarts Draft, the Stuarts Draft volleyball team squeaked out a win against Turner Ashby on Thursday night, taking it to five games.
