Ready for the next step
It will never end. The hard work, the passion and drive to be the best.
Shawnte Woodson pushes herself to keep tennis pumping through her blood. That means there is no time to rest for the recent Waynesboro graduate. This summer she will be teaching tennis and playing in tourneys before she packs up her racquet for Hollins University, a NCAA Division III school outside of Roanoke.

Wilson falls to George Mason
FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial was prepared to avenge a 5-1 regional loss to George Mason during the 2007 season and after singles, the Hornets looked good to meet their goal, up 4-2. But the Hornets didn’t quite have enough falling, 5-4 after the doubles.
“Somebody has to go home,” Wilson coach Marcy Baker said. “We gave them a run for their money. We knew they were going to be tough and we just came up on the short end of the stick.”

Indians turn on the lights
FORT DEFIANCE — They are just lights sitting on top of a hill at S.G. Stewart Middle School that illuminate fenced in tennis courts, but to Fort Defiance girls tennis coach John Edgecomb and the rest of the Indian tennis program they are beacons, a sign of years of work.
“What it does is it offer the community a place were parents and children can come out and do something and brothers and sisters can come out and do something and do it after normal work hours,” Edgecomb said.
