All it took was one pitch in the bottom of the eighth for the Fort Defiance softball team to avoid an upset at the hands of Spotswood.

With the game tied at 1 in extra innings, the Indians’ Brooke Sigrist sent the first pitch she saw over the center-field fence for the walk-off homer to give Fort a 2-1 win over the visiting Trailblazers.

Sigrist also scored the first run of the game, touching home plate after reaching first on a walk in the third inning, moving to second on a Tiffany Lockridge bunt and scoring on a Courtney Allman line drive to left center.

Spotswood tied it up in the sixth when Molly Smith drove in Brooke Hensley.

Fort starter Jessica Hogle and the Blazers’ Molly Smith dueled it out for the most of the game. Payton Hill relieved Hogle in the sixth and struck out Jessica Morris with the bases loaded to end the threat. Hill would strike out five of the 10 batters she faced.
