Indians crowned
FORT DEFIANCE — Stuarts Draft’s early mistakes helped Fort Defiance clinch an 8-6 victory and, more importantly, the Southern Valley District title on Wednesday.
The first inning started out rough for the Cougars, giving up errors and runs. After Fort walked Draft’s leadoff batter, Amber Christy, they quickly made up for it with a double play on the next batter, Lindsay Iseli. Another quick out and the Indians were ready for the plate.

Wilson handed its first loss
FISHERSVILLE — Wilson Memorial’s dream season took a slight detour Wednesday as Luray came in and delivered a 2-1 loss to the previously undefeated Green Hornets in a Shenandoah showdown.
The game came down to the narrowest of margins as the Bulldogs scratched out a run in the top of the seventh and held on in the bottom of the inning to keep their lead over the Hornets and stay at the top of the district.

Fort passes the test
FORT DEFIANCE — The No. 1 softball team in the Southern Valley did exactly what they wanted to on a rare Saturday afternoon game in Fort Defiance.
In an effort to gauge their abilities against a higher-caliber opponent, the Indians took on William Monroe in a battle of two possible regional tournament-bound teams. With a deceiving 6-6 overall record, the Dragons kept the Indians backed into a corner for most of the game, but Fort’s fundamental base running and powerful defense held on for a 3-0 non-district win.
