STAUNTON — The Augusta FC under-17 girls red team won its first ever State Cup match on Saturday afternoon, defeating Loudon.

The Wilson Memorial girls soccer team beat Region A champ Northampton, 3-0, on Tuesday to advance to Friday’s Group A Girls Soccer Final Four in Radford.

33 goals in her freshman season. Getting double-marked in matches. Yeah, soccer is life for Wilson’s Lindsay Suyes.

Practice was supposed to end at 4:45 Monday afternoon. But it’s 4:58 and the Wilson Memorial girls soccer team is still rolling along.

Ask Brittany Reid about the defenders in front of her and she makes them sound like the greatest thing since bread and its eventual slicing.

FISHERSVILLE — Although Wilson lost the Region B Championship Friday night to George Mason, the team is still confident in their ability to play well at the Group A tournament Tuesday.

AMHERST — Jefferson Forest stuck to its game plan in the Region III semifinal against Waynesboro — it controlled the ball. The plan worked and the Cavaliers earned their spot in the Group AA tournament, beating Waynesboro 2-0.

FORT DEFIANCE - Harrisonburg did not wait long to punch its ticket to the next round of the Region III boys soccer tournament as the Streaks netted four first-half goals and kept the Indians off the board for all 80 minutes, winning 4-0.

FISHERSVILLE — With a berth to the Group A tournament on the line, Wilson Memorial didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard Wednesday against Goochland.

FOREST — Waynesboro had Jefferson Forest on its heels for the first 40 minutes of play.

A soaking wet Waynesboro team came back to beat William Byrd 4-3 in the Region III quarterfinals on Tuesday.

With 18 minutes left to play in a scoreless Southern Valley District tournament championship, Robert E. Lee’s Bree Hersch didn’t slow down when Waynesboro keeper Kate Garber charged out of the box.

FORT DEFIANCE –  For Waynesboro, revenge was sweet.

FORT DEFIANCE -  With eight minutes to play Fort Defiance found itself down 1-0 to Stuarts Draft and were minutes away from being done for the season.

FISHERSVILLE – Freshman standout Lindsay Suyes scored three times in the first 15 minutes of the match to propel Wilson to the Shenandoah District tournament title, defeating Riverheads, 5-1.

QUICKSBURG – Midway through the first half, Josh Miller pumped his fist as he ran toward a sea of green jerseys that quickly enveloped him in high fives and hugs.

Sitting on the moist grass, Kristen Moody slowly laces up her cleats, adjusts her shin guards and, in one quick motion, reaches for her low-cut Converse and throws them out of the way.

To the sounds of cheers echoing off the surrounding mountains, Riverheads defeated Buffalo Gap by a score of 2-1 in the Shenandoah District tournament semifinals.
