Gap wraps up 2nd perfect season
LURAY — A Repeat.
Buffalo Gap did it again on Friday night at Luray completing their second-straight undefeated season by walloping the Bulldogs 52-6 at Luray. Gap also clinched the Shenandoah District and continued Virginia’s longest active winning streak at 25.
For the Bulldogs, they were caught in midst of defense and turnovers that only fueled the Bison’s offense.
Gap had an interception and a fumble recovery by Travis Hale that set up Ryan Sheridan’s 40-yard quarterback keeper in the first quarter. Sheridan added another touchdown weaving in and out of Luray traffic to find the end zone.
“I don’t know what to say,” Sheridan said. “It’s all family, our fans are best in our house or away.”
Lance Hanger intercepted the Bulldogs and set the table for for Sheridan to touch the end zone again at the 2:05 mark of the first quarter.
“Our defensive and offensive line don’t get the credit they deserve,” Sheridan said. “They did an awesome job.”
For the Bison the score did not matter.
“We are guaranteed one more game,” said Bison coach Rob Maxwell. “And the kids know that. We’ve been down that road before.”
The second half only got better for the Gap crowd as they witnessed Pickle Nuckols carry the ball for 145 yards in the first half.
Luray’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter.
Gap kept threading touchdowns and added 20 points in the second half.
But the team was subdued about their undefeated season.
“We never talk about it, we focus on the game we play this week. We try not to look ahead,” Maxwell said.
