FISHERSVILLE — Fans packed into Wilson Memorial on Friday night to watch the cross-county showdown against Stuarts Draft. The show was put on by the Cougars’ offense who led Draft to a 48-13 win.
Shifflett ran the ball right through the Wilson defense. He got the scoring started in the first quarter with a 35-yard touchdown run. Wilson’s offense punched their way down the field leading to a Ben Hopewell 32-yard field goal attempt that fell short.
Draft’s offense came back onto the field with the same mentality to run the ball up the middle. Shifflett ran for another touchdown from nine yards out and Jeff Wilson’s extra point kick put Draft up 14-0 after the first quarter. The Hornets’ Richard Andrews got Wilson on the board with a 54-yard touchdown run.
Draft wasn’t about to let Wilson gain any kind of momentum. On the next drive they gave Shifflett the ball and he ran the Draft offense all the way to the two-yard line where quarterback Ryan Moore ran the ball in for a two-yard touchdown run.
Shifflett’s half was not over he added another touchdown run this time from two yards out. The Cougars went into halftime with a 28-6 lead.
The second half was no different than the first half. The Cougars continued to pound the ball up the middle, this time with sophomore D.J. Hines.  The Cougars scored the only points in the third quarter on a 15-yard TD run by Hines.
Shifflett had one more run in his system straight up the middle for a six-yard touchdown. Shifflett finished the game with 22 carries for 219 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
In the fourth it was all about running out the clock for the Cougars. Wilson added a touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Jake Bailey to Sean Sullivan. The Cougars put up one last touchdown late in the fourth on a six-yard run by Dillon Campbell.
“The offensive line opened the hole and all I had to do was run a little,” said Shifflett. Shifflett gave the credit to his offensive line for his big night.
“Travis stepped it up tonight,” said Draft coach Rod Bowers. “The O-line showed up tonight.”
The Cougars will look to keep their success going next week in a home contest against Riverheads. Wilson will try to rebound next Friday at Fort Defiance.
