More times than not, the team that wins the turnover battle also wins the war. That was the case Friday night as Broadway turned two Waynesboro first-quarter turnovers into touchdowns in route to a 45-20 victory, keeping Waynesboro winless for the season.

Despite the inauspicious start, the Little Giants got up off the canvas and traded blows the rest of the way with the Gobblers, leaving coach Steve Isaacs pleased with the improvement his team continues to show.

“We shot ourselves in the foot early and Broadway capitalized like good teams do,” Isaacs said. “But we kept playing and started to dig out of that hole. Our kids are learning and getting better each week and that makes me look forward to the future with this team.”

Broadway took the opening possession and went 84 yards in 17 plays, scoring on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Adam Caplinger to Kristain Moore to take a 7-0 lead with 4:30 to play in the first quarter.

Waynesboro fumbled on their third play giving the ball back to Caplinger who hit Nathan Hooven from 22 yards out to go up 13-0 after a failed two point conversion.

The Little Giants again put the ball on the ground on the third play of their next drive and three plays later found themselves down 19-0 after Preston Funk scored from one-yard out with less than a minute to go in the first.

The offense took the field again and this time went on an eight-play drive that covered 75 yards and ended on a 16-yard touchdown run from Justin Clark.

Broadway answered right back when Joel Phillips broke free for a 78-yard touchdown run putting the Gobblers ahead 25-7 with at the 8:26 mark in the second quarter.

After Waynesboro turned the ball over on downs, Broadway scored again on a six-yard run by Sean Layman making the score 31-7 at the half.

Waynesboro opened the second half with its best drive of the night. The Little Giants went on a 14-play drive that ended in a Tyler Briggs touchdown pass to Clark from 11 yards out.

After another Broadway score Waynesboro moved the ball again against the Gobbler defense driving 48-yards in nine plays and scoring their third touchdown of the night when Tyler Briggs scampered in from the four-yard line making the final 45-20.
