STUARTS DRAFT — As the final whistle blew on Friday night, Stuarts Draft coach Rod Bowers looked at the final score of 58-31 in favor of the Blue Streaks and completely disregarded the 27-point defeat.

More times than not, the team that wins the turnover battle also wins the war. That was the case Friday night as Broadway turned two Waynesboro first-quarter turnovers into touchdowns in route to a 45-20 victory, keeping Waynesboro winless for the season.

Missed opportunities and key turnovers spelled doom for Fishburne Military School on Monday afternoon.

STAUNTON — Friday night featured the top two teams from the Southern Valley and Massanutten Districts. The undefeated Spotswood Trailblazers marched into Staunton to take on one-loss Robert E. Lee and put up 15 fourth-quarter points to defeat the Leemen 29-10.

HARRISONBURG — Even without star running back Michael Holmes for most of the game, the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks were able to get by the Fort Defiance Indians on Friday night, 34-12.

Wilson gets 1st SVD victory

SWOOPE — The Bison defense had to hold. James River quarterback Jordan Talbott threw the ball all over the field, but the Gap secondary held down the air assault enough to dominate in a 40-14 win Friday night.

HARRISONBURG — It was the Michael Holmes show once again in Harrisonburg on Friday night, as the Blue Streaks’ star running back torched the Waynesboro Little Giants for 275 yards and five touchdowns in a 43-7 Harrisonburg win.

FISHERSVILLE — Freshman Malik Rucks scampered 40 yards for a late touchdown and Wilson overcame two late Luray defensive touchdowns to escape with a 31-27 non-district win to celebrate Homecoming at the Hive on Friday.

STAUNTON — As Robert E. Lee quarterback Devante White took the field on Friday night, he knew he was going to be battling more than the Broadway Gobblers. He was battling the flu, but White did not allow his sickness to hamper his play and instead carried the Lee football team to a 36-24 win.

GREENVILLE — Playing against their first out-of-state opponent in school history, the Riverheads Gladiators put on a smash-mouth football clinic piling up 470 yards of rushing in a 27-13 win over visiting Greenbrier West High School from Charmco, W.Va.

STAUNTON — Things are turning around for Steve Isaacs and his Waynesboro football team. Falling 30-0 at the hands of Robert E. Lee on Monday night really did not tell the actual story of the game the Little Giants played.

STAUNTON – Robert E. Lee took a 30-0 win over Waynesboro on Monday, but despite the score, Lee coach David Tibbs was not happy.

PENN LAIRD — The Spotswood Trailblazers are now 4-0 following a 35-0 win over the Stuarts Draft Cougars (1-3) on Friday night. Senior stars Chad Williams and Nick Wimer led the high-powered Blazers’ offense, while Wimer also pitched in on defense with an interception return for a touchdown.

BRIDGEWATER — Fort Defiance was able to do what other schools were unable to do — stop Turner Ashby quarterback Kyle Linn.

SWOOPE — Playing without starting quarterback Trevor Campbell, the Buffalo Gap Bison found themselves in need of some play-making and leadership on Friday night against the visiting Parry McClure Blues. They found that in the form of backup quarterback Justin Lambert who filled in admirably for the injured Campbell leading the Bison to a 27-14 victory.

LEXINGTON – Fort Defiance went for the kill on Friday, defeating Rockbridge 48-13 with quarterback Michael Cook leading the way in the two teams’ first Southern Valley District game of the season

In Buena Vista, Riverheads kept Parry McClure pinned deep in its own territory for most of the night on Friday on its way to a 47-8 road win.

SWOOPE — After falling behind fourteen-points early, the Buffalo Gap Bison used a stingy and opportunistic defense to shut out visiting Wilson Memorial for the rest of the way for a 27-14 victory.

HARRISONBURG — The Harrisonburg Blue Streaks avenged last season’s loss to Robert E. Lee on Friday night, topping the Leemen 69-27.

PENN LAIRD — After one quarter of play on Friday night, Waynesboro had a 7-6 lead over the stunned Spotswood Trailblazers, but the lead would not hold for long as the Blazers put up 41 second-quarter points on way to a 61-13 win.

STUARTS DRAFT — If VDOT decides it needs its heavy equipment, a phone call to Turner Ashby would be a bonanza.

In Washington, the Fishburne football team improved its record to 1-1 on Friday afternoon after defeating the defending Capital Area Football Conference champions.

FORT DEFIANCE — No amount of pounding drums could stop the Indians from being gobbled up by Broadway on Friday evening as the Gobblers beat Fort Defiance 14-8.
