GIRLS HOOPS: Riverheads’ Bell resigns
Published: May 5, 2009
Dickie Bell, who led the Riverheads girls basketball team for six seasons, said Monday he resigned from the post on April 21.
Bell, during those six seasons, compiled an 84-63 record and finished his career with three straight Region B berths.
“Yes, I’ll miss it,” he said. “I love the game, I love the kids and I’ll miss doing it.”
Riverheads Athletic Director Matt Stevens and Principal Steven Barnett could not be reached for comment.
Bell, who also coaches the boys soccer team at Riverheads, picked up his 100th career victory on the pitch this spring for the Greenville school.
Bell said he will remain as head coach for the boys soccer team.
During his tenure on the basketball bench, Bell saw three of his players take their game to the next level — including the school’s all-time leading girls basketball scorer, Kristin Bosserman, a rising senior at Bridgewater who averaged 8.0 points per game this past season.
The other two are Brittany Snyder, a rising junior at Eastern Mennonite who averaged 13.7 per game in 2008-09 and was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s second team; and Mary Baldwin graduate Lindsay Callison.
Bell would not comment any further on his resignation, only repeating, “I’ll miss it.”
