The Indians compete in Co-Ed Classic

The Fort Defiance girls and boys track and field teams participated Saturday in the 32nd Annual Harrisonburg Co-Ed Classic.

The Fort Defiance earned a third place trophy in the 10-team meet. In the girls 4x200 relay, Jennifer Whitecotton, Meredith Richards, Julie Shreckhise and Jasmine Diggs finished second with a time of one minute, 50.9 seconds. The time was the second best all-time performance in Fort Defiance girls track. The coed 4x100 relay team of Aaron Freeman, Julie Shreckhise, Cody Elliott and Jasmine Diggs finished first.
The coed 4x200 relay team of Lizzie Jones, Aaron Freeman, Kristin Espinoza and Ronnie Mongold finished second. The coed 4x400 relay team of Zack Grove, Jennifer Whitecotton, Cody Elliott and Meredith Richards finished third. The boys 4x800 relay team of Zack Barlow, Brandon Griffin, Aaron Shobe and Joe Little finished sixth.

In boys field events, Jake Shreckhise took third in the high jump and Andrew Phillips was finished fifth in the long jump. In girls field events, Sarah Bothof and Katherine Combs finished second and third in the discus. Bothof also finished second in the shot put. Jasmine Diggs was sixth in both the triple and long jump and Heather Rittenhouse placed sixth in the high jump.

The FDHS girls and boys teams will next compete on Tuesday at Spotswood High School.
