Lee’s Scott says he’ll attend JMU
STAUNTON — R.E. Lee quarterback Dae’ Quan Scott confirmed Monday that he has changed his mind and will be attending James Madison University to play football this fall.
Scott originally gave an verbal commitment to the University of Richmond shortly after his football season ended.
“They are both good schools,” Scott said. “I made a final decision today that I’m going to JMU. This time, I won’t change my mind. I felt that [JMU] has a good offense and that it’s better for me to go there.”
The move came on the same day the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg reported that Scott visited the JMU campus over the weekend.
Scott did visit JMU last weekend and confirmed his decision after basketball practice Monday.
Scott is not obligated to attend JMU or Richmond until he signs his name on national signing day Feb. 4. That is when it becomes official. Making a verbal commitment does not hold the senior to one college, Lee football coach Dave Tibbs said.
“Look, until his pencil touches the paper, and until next week, nothing is official,” Tibbs said. “It can change again.”
Scott can solidify his final decision to play for the Dukes when Lee holds a news conference at 4 p.m. Feb. 4.
