Residents in the Wayne Hills neighborhood of Waynesboro had its first chance during a public meeting Tuesday to weigh in on stormwater improvements as part of the city’s study of the issue.

$200K grant to help local businesses

STAUNTON – Small businesses in Staunton will receive a boost thanks to a $200,000 state grant city officials announced Tuesday.

At the George Bowers Grocery in New Town, Assistant Economic Director Amanda Huffman said the SPARC PLUG loan program would provide training, business planning and funding directly to local entrepreneurs and business owners.

Visulite envisioned

Visulite Cinemas plans to build a 10-screen movie theater along Lew Dewitt Boulevard in Waynesboro a half-mile from the site for a 12-screen theater.

Visulite plans to open the new moviehouse in November 2010 near Lowe’s, Adam Greenbaum, president of the Staunton-based company, said Wednesday.

I see that tourism is doing quite well in Staunton. I commend them for all of the hard work, creative thinking, good leadership and vision and especially the drive to carry out their vision. I see tourists in Waynesboro also – but mainly to ask directions to Staunton.

Astronomers say that somewhere in the great beyond is a great void the breadth of which measures almost 1 billion light years and the existence of which scientific theory cannot explain. In another realm, in that strange place outside our door, there are voids which logic cannot explain. Politics, through which light seldom travels, perhaps provides answers, all of them cavernous and unsatisfying.
