FORT DEFIANCE – In a command performance, Waynesboro clamped down Fort Defiance’s Sidney Gardner, last season’s Southern Valley District player of the year, while using three second-half goals, including two from Taylor Sayre, propelling the Little Giants to a 4-0 win Friday over the Indians.

Giants blank Lee in delayed opener
Waynesboro’s Taylor Sayre scored two goals and keeper Kate Garber didn’t allow a ball to reach the back of the net, leading the Little Giants to an early Southern Valley District win over Robert E. Lee. The Little Giants took the frigid contest 2-0.

R.E. Lee ends Waynesboro’s season
STAUNTON — Robert E. Lee defeated the Little Giants 4-1 on Friday afternoon ending Waynesboro’s season. Lee came back from a goal deficient and netted three more during the last half of a match to reserve a spot against Stuarts Draft next Tuesday in the Southern Valley Tournament.
Lee coach Andrew Green said his team had the right motivation against the Giants. It all started at Waynesboro. The Giants defeated Lee at home 5-1 in its first match. That game was pivotal for Lee.
