PENN LAIRD — After one quarter of play on Friday night, Waynesboro had a 7-6 lead over the stunned Spotswood Trailblazers, but the lead would not hold for long as the Blazers put up 41 second-quarter points on way to a 61-13 win.

The Waynesboro Little Giants suffered their second-straight defeat of the season Friday night, falling at the hands of the Turner Ashby Knights 43-7. That lop-sided score, however, does not tell the whole story of a game that saw a young Waynesboro football team take a collective step forward.

35-point first hands Warriors a win

The Waynesboro and Wilson football players got their first chance to hit someone wearing a different color jersey on Friday night and showed signs of life that their coaches were looking for.

They even helped each other out on their own personal signing day.

Waynesboro High School’s Jacob Lipscomb was nominated for the Old Spice Red Zone Player of the Year for his accomplishments as defensive tackle for the Little Giants and for his contributions in the community.

Waynesboro never quit on Friday night, and played to the final whistle giving Harrisonburg all they had but fell 28-6.

Pom-poms and silly string were thrown into the pile of Waynesboro players lifting their helmets in the air after they celebrated their first, and only, Southern Valley District win of the season.

Waynesboro came to play Friday night against district foe Fort Defiance in it homecoming game. The Little Giants came up big on defense and offense to defeat the Indians 40-16.

Waynesboro and Fort Defiance have not won a district game this season, but that will change tonight for one of the teams Little Giants coach Steve Isaacs has not changed his tone sticking to what he has said before every game.

Robert E. Lee was hungry after Monday night’s loss against Turner Ashby, bouncing back against rival Waynesboro for a 47-0 win Friday night.

Waynesboro football coach Steve Isaacs does not care who is coming to Waynesboro tonight.

There wasn’t much going right for the Little Giants on Friday night.
