PREP BASEBALL: Lee ends 9-year region drought, knocks out Giants
The momentum from the first batter lasted up until the very last for Robert E. Lee as it beat Waynesboro 9-2 in the Southern Valley District consolation game on Thursday to gain the final Region III bid. This will be the first time the Leemen have made the region tournament in nine years.

Giants slip by B’way

It was no surprise to some Waynesboro baseball players that coach Jim Critzer made his exit official on June 18.
Although the Little Giants were prepared, many were still mourning the final curtain call.

Giants’ Critzer resigns
In the days leading up to Waynesboro’s second straight Group AA Final Four baseball berth, speculation was abound that it would be skipper Jim Critzer’s last season at the helm of the Little Giants.
Critzer put the rumors to rest Monday, confirming that for the first time in four years the Waynesboro baseball program will have to search for a new coach.

Jimmy Eavers’ tears were telling of what the Waynesboro baseball squad was. Some would call them a “team.” They called themselves a “family.”
So when Eavers, a freshman call-up from JV that spent most of his time in the dugout cheering on the guys that accepted him into the purple and gold familia, couldn’t keep from crying as the Little Giants readied to walk out of Calfee Park in Pulaski, it was clear who he was crying for.

With the heat index escalating to 100 degrees, Waynesboro fans took shelter beneath the covered grandstand at Calfee Park before the Little Giants and Indians met in the Group AA semifinals Friday morning.
