Crowd expresses disappointment with City Council

Notice to Waynesboro taxpayers: We cannot afford another tax increase.

We’re already paying more in taxes on water, sewer and garbage through higher rates and fee charges.

Several Waynesboro residents expressed opposition to the proposed 70-cent personal property tax rate during a public hearing at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Augusta County Supervisors on Wednesday approved a $73 million budget for 2009-10 that includes a reduced tax rate of 48 cents per $100.

Further budget, program cuts hang in the balance

Mayor Tim Williams, along with Councilwomen Lorie Smith and Nancy Dowdy, expressed support for a 70-cent tax rate, not an equalized, 67-cent rate favored by Vice Mayor Frank Lucente and Bruce Allen.
