HARRISONBURG — It took extra innings, but in the biggest game in the Shenandoah District between two bitter rivals, it all seemed fitting as Buffalo Gap took down Riverheads 5-4 in eight innings for the title Thursday night.

Wenger breaks Gap’s home run record

SWOOPE – Josh Wenger broke the Buffalo Gap High School record for most home runs recorded in a single season hitting his ninth of the year in Gap’s 10-0 win against Riverheads on Tuesday.
It took 15-years for the home run record to be broken but Wenger just shook it off as another hit, but did crack a smile.

PREP ROUNDUP: Wilson moves two steps closer

In Quicksburg, Wilson Memorial’s softball team set it self up for a two game showdown for the Shenandoah District title after a 7-1 win over Stonewall Jackson
Summer Ramsey took the win for the Green Hornets, pitching eight strikeouts while giving up two hits.
Debbie Groves and Amanda Bradley each had three hits with Bradley knocking in three runs. Leah Pagett had two RBI and Caitlyn Turner had one RBI.

Hornets trump Pride

GREENVILLE – Alex Fisher grinned from the pitcher’s mound into the Wilson Memorial dugout after his 4-2 victory over Riverheads on Friday afternoon.
He passed by his teammates and shared high-fives and cheers. The senior did not have to explain what his reasons were — but his stats did. He threw one-hit ball until the sixth inning and struck 10 before he packed his bags to go home.
