Landes demands Marrow clarify

» 20 Comments | Post a Comment

Thursday’s House 25 debate was apparently only the start of fireworks between candidates.

On Friday, House District 25 Del. Steve Landes challenged Democratic opponent Greg Marrow to clarify his position on funding a state transportation solution, and whether he supports Democratic gubernatorial nominee Creigh Deeds’ proposal.

Landes said Deeds wants to raise taxes for transportation and has a long record of support for tax increases.

The Democratic gubernatorial nominee is basing his transportation plan on a bipartisan solution that could include new taxes.

Marrow responded by saying as a fiscal conservative he does not support tax increases, and would prefer that revenue come from job creation, bureaucratic audits and efficiency.

Deeds said in a Washington Post op-ed piece Wednesday that if elected governor he would assemble a bipartisan committee to craft a transportation package.

He said he would sign a bill that is the product of a bipartisan compromise.

And Deeds did say he will sign a bipartisan bill with a dedicated funding source even if it includes new taxes.

Marrow said Landes’ description of Deeds’ proposal is inaccurate. He said it is not an unequivocal attempt to raise taxes, and said Deeds wants to solve the problem and wants a bipartisan solution.

Landes said he wants to find a solution to transportation that “does not increase the tax burden on working men and women of Virginia.”

Among the options Landes would consider to raise money for transportation are the use of bonds, further efficiencies in the operation of VDOT, privatizing more services and the use of tolls if it does not affect the Shenandoah Valley adversely.

He said Marrow has not put forward a clear transportation plan. He wants to know whether Marrow supports Deeds’ plan to raise taxes.

Marrow said Landes’ news release is one of “spreading fear about tax increases” and is a “desperate attempt by Landes to use tired, old rhetoric to misinform and scare voters in District 25.”

Marrow NEVER ONCE said that he would raise taxes.  He has made that clear on many fronts and in many interviews, I know because I’ve been paying attention and I know how the rightwing likes to distort things.  I’ve seen the video, Marrow was asked what he would look at to fund transportation.  He mentioned that “all options were on the table, no matter what your party affiliation,“  That is leadership.  He merely pointed out a few taxes that we have that are significantly less than outher states. But NOWHERE did he say that he would raise taxes!

You are a liar and fraud.

To be truthful, it is your candidate who has twice mentioned that he has voted for fee increases and “fees are taxes” and that he would be willing to look at them again!

And that from a guy who signed the “No Tax Pledge” put out by the Americans for Tax Reform!

How do you feel about your boy now? Do us all a favor and stop being a partisan jerk and start looking at the issues.  If you truly cared about where you live, then you’d do that.

All you rightwing freaks pay attention.

bags, if you look over these posts, you’ll find I’m not involved in the argument on this thread. I merely pointed out that you have committed ad hominem by attacking the posters rather than the points raised. I provided a dictionary definition of ad hominem, while you toss out some unattributed quote. If you REALLY want to prove your point, debate the facts and leave the childish attacks out.

“not how the meaning of the term is typically introduced in modern logic and rhetoric textbooks, and logicians and rhetoricians are in agreement that this use is incorrect”...I typed this really slow for you!  Take note of modern logic and rhetoric…that means in todays world, but alas I digress.  I only apply words that fit the record, yet no reply on how Pat Robertson…McDonnel will fund transportation or anything else he claims he can do.  Bible qoutes, how ironic from the “religious right” that is neither!

bags… from Merriam-Webster.com:

Main Entry: 1ad ho·mi·nem
Pronunciation: \(ˈ)ad-ˈhä-mə-ˌnem, -nəm\
Function: adjective
Etymology: New Latin, literally, to the person
Date: 1598
1 : appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect
2 : marked by or being an attack on an opponent’s character rather than by an answer to the contentions made

And here are some of your commenst that fit the definition:

“isn’t right side an import yankee…correction a damn yankee, do us a favor and take your idiotic right wing a** home”

“Moe, Larry, and Curly (Landes, Cline and Saxman)“

“all we heard from the three stooges “

“the right wing idiots “

“you and your lock step buddies “

“speaking of idiots, Gilmore fits that bill”

“we have enough homegrown idiots that we do not need any from outside of the area “

“you did drag Jersey in, even yankees don’t recognize that armpit. “

Bags, “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.“ Your words speak volumes about who you are.

I told you, we can’t make this stuff up.  See ad hominem argument info below:  In informal logic
In the past, the term ad hominem was sometimes used more literally, to describe an argument that was based on an individual, or to describe any personal attack. However, this is not how the meaning of the term is typically introduced in modern logic and rhetoric textbooks, and logicians and rhetoricians are in agreement that this use is incorrect…notice incorrect.  Okay, I asked what Pat Robertson’s…McDonnell’s transportation plan is…TOLLS = TAX…sell the ABC stores…again…WHAT?!!  How about we open the ABC stores on Sunday too, I bet that extra revenue could go toward transportation.  Again, at least Deeds is honest when he says that everythin, including taxes is on the table, but Pat Robertson…McDonnell has no clear way to find the revenue except to raise taxes (TOLLS) and sell the ABC stores…what???  I guess we will just use that monopoly money I spoke of earlier.  So, listenup, ya better read up, we are taking back what is ours and we will “un” gerrymander the republican district screw ups (obviously republicans did not do well in geography) and continue taking Virginia in that liberal Forbes direction of being the best state for doing business…damn them!!

Hey bags, ever hear of an ad hominem argument? It’s when you attack the person in a debate because you’re unable to answer the points they’ve raised. Answer the question or point… don’t attack the person.

You “right” I should clarify and I’ll type slow in doing so, we have enough homegrown idiots that we do not need any from outside of the area and I do not care if they are from the North, South, or West!  However, you did drag Jersey in, even yankees don’t recognize that armpit. Not cheap shots just facts!  moving on, you fail to address what Pat Robertson, I mean McDonnell’s plan is for transportation, oh wait that’s right he wants TOLLS (TAX,TAX, TAX) and he wants to privatize the ABC stores…what?!?!  Is that a mandate from Norfolk?  Bsically, he has no plan except to raise taxes.  At least Deeds is honest enough to say everything is on the table rather than pretend that some magical monopoly money is going to appear and pay for these projects…because supply side economics DOES NOT WORK..  I’ll be moving on to the bigger fish now.  Oh yea, you need to go to real clear politics and update your poll info, Corzine is closing the gap (6.6) not double digits.

Amazing…
Almost had to go back and check that I did not leave my comment on the other famous local newspaper online site where the usual and expected attack dogs would pounce on your comments…

Playing the “Yankee Race card” is getting old and little effect anymore. Interesting how even in the “Land-O-Yanks” they also are getting wise to the system and look at the Democrat Governor who is down double digits in his election also… See, them Yanks are waking up also…. Hey, is this some type of “Geographical Racism?“...

Just like those Damn-Yanks up north in Jersey who are booting Corzine, people are getting tired of name calling attacks and cheap shots like the ones taken at the 3 Delegates from this area…

As far as Deeds carrying the torch will he at least give details how he will do that? It seems he will not come out with a detailed plan for transportation and how he would pay for it. “Trust me” as reported in local papers does not cut it…

Again I ask, what solutions to the budget woes do you and your lock step buddies have?  Nothing is off the table! Let’s begin by reinstating the estate tax and for that matter, the car tax too…speaking of idiots, Gilmore fits that bill.  So Landes’ solution for transportation is for an internal audit of VDOT, wow now that is clever.  Hey did I not hear Pat Robertson, oops McDonnell say he was in favor of TOLLS at the Carolina border?  Oh, that’s right that is code in wing nut for a tax without saying tax.  No solutions are what ya’ll have with the rhetoric of fantasy and fear!
