Why won’t Hanger give it up already?

I am writing to say enough is enough. Three weeks after Kurt Michael stepped down as chairman of the Augusta County Republican Committee, I read that state Sen. Emmett Hanger is out attacking him and the committee again (“Hanger chastised by GOP ‘club,’ ” June 27). Why can’t Hanger recognize Michael’s actions as promoting unity? If Hanger wants to continue his petty battles with the Republicans, then let him do so at the exposure of his own lack of character.
For more than a year now, every time Hanger or Michael’s name is in the paper, Scott Sayre’s is dragged in for running against Hanger in the 2007 primary. I applaud Sayre for having the guts to run against a 13-year incumbent. I wish more business persons would stand up to these tax-and-spend politicians. Sayre lost the election then congratulated Hanger and moved on with his life.
Instead of referring to Sayre for what he did in the past, why don’t you start referring to him as the vice chairman of the Sixth Congressional District. After all, that made front page news. Or why don’t you refer to Sayre as a select member of the state Republican Party’s transition team? Let Hanger rant on, but know that Michael has stepped aside and stop dragging Sayre’s name up in conjunction with Hanger and last year’s primary.

Smith sounds like the rest of the cry baby neo-cons who are slowly yet effectively dividing the Republican party, which of course I relish.  Though no huge supporter of Hanger at least he understands that compromise is essential in governing and those rigid neo-cons effectively stall government(i.e, look at the transportation issue).  These “no tax” people keep saying how are you going to fund transportation Governor, yet they have had years to present how they are going to fund it, but have no solution.  Why?  Because supply side economics DOES NOT WORK!!  Taxes are a function of government and should be used to fund items like roads.  The question then is when did you drive on a road that was not paid for by taxes and are you going to personally fund roads or any infrastructure need personally?  Sayre is a warped neo-con with ties to the Falwellians and his brand of politics will do nothing if he is ever elected.  However, most people in this country are moderates and these neo-cons will only ensure that Virginia and other states continue to get “bluer.“
