What does Obama really stand for?
Published: August 30, 2008
I wonder about the letters in support of Barack Obama. Have these supporters taken the time to understand who Obama is and what he stands for? Here is a man who removes the American flag from his plane and replaces it with his own logo. Here is a man who placed his own presidential-like seal with his own Latin inscription on his podium until general ridicule forced him to remove it. And if this arrogance were not enough, as a state senator, he voted “Present” nearly 130 times, meaning he was not willing to take a stand one way or the other. In three years as senator, Obama has not one single legislative achievement to his name. Not knowing what to do and doing nothing are not the signs of leadership.
Obama’s stand on the abortion issue suggests he cares nothing for life, given his blocking of emergency medical care for babies who survive abortion. His derisive comment regarding the white grandmother who raised him, “she is a typical white person,” borders on the unbelievable. If other politicians engaged in such racial profiling, “He’s a typical Latino – she’s a typical Asian,” the media would eat them alive.
Obama will increase foreign aid by billions of your tax dollars, much of the money going to countries that hate us. He wants to raise the tax on capital gains, forgetting that most Americans own stock and ignoring the fact that every prior increase of the gains tax has resulted in LESS income to the government. He will push a national health system that has been a disaster in other countries.
Change? Show me ANY candidate who has not promised change. Obama is an accomplished speaker (when he has a prepared script) but his only substance is higher taxes, redistribution of wealth and bigger government.

Reader Reactions
The crux of this letter is revealed toward the end. “He wants to raise the tax on capital gains.“ This is what has earned Mr. Obama the enmity of Mr. Salembier.
The rest of this letter is balderdash. The higher taxes that Mr. Salembier so loathes are on those who make more than $250,000 a year in income. Which is to say, not you, not me, not all but one or two of us reading this. The redistribution of wealth? Ditto. The ultrawealthy are asked to pay their fair share, and they call that the “redistribution of wealth.“ Bigger government? Obama has made it clear that reducing the size of government, unlike what we saw from 2001-2007 out of Bush-McCain, who pushed massive growth in government spending beyond what even the most liberal of Democrats could imagine.
Mr. Salembier would have it that our country remained in debt to China and other foreign creditors so that the wealthy could continue to enjoy their overly friendly Bush tax cuts, that the tens of millions of Ameriacans who don’t have access to health care be left to fend for themselves for another four years, and pay $4 a gallon for gas to get to work.
Don’t be fooled by his empty rhetoric.
