Valley Aging provides badly needed service

» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

Sometime after 2003, I had to give up driving because of age and health problems.
Soon after, I found the most wonderful organization, Valley Program for Aging Services Inc., and I joined. Now, I can give two or three days’ notice and shop, have my hair done and go for doctor appointments.
Transportation is provided by VPAS, volunteers only, and our Waynesboro is really blessed with them.
There is no set price and we are only expected to give what we can afford.
Many thanks to Jackie Horton, her staff and the volunteers for giving me the freedom to do those things that I had taken for granted for so many years. Their concerns and kindness are so appreciated.

Ruby, I think it is vital for users of services like this to let other people know how valuable they are. The usage and importance of such things are not always visible to our local government, and that makes the service vulnerable to cuts in funding. Thanks for writing your letter to the editor.

I learned a lot about the senior transportation services at the Waynesboro Senoir Center earlier this year, and I hope that the service becomes more well-known in the community.
