Thanks given to the Waynesboro Council
Published: December 4, 2008
In this giving season, I’m so thankful we have citizens willing to serve on the City Council even though this task can sometimes be quite challenging.
The latest challenge is trying to quell rumors and deal with quotes taken out of context, and just defending a position that they never wanted to be in the center of to begin with.
Frank Lucente and Bruce Allen are dear friends of mine; I’ve known both of these gentlemen for many many years and let me, once and for all, really set the record straight. These guys are no dummies. They are well aware of the current economic times both locally and nationally. Frank has two degrees. He is well versed in financial matters. He recognizes, as does Bruce, timing; and absolutely, positively would not request or vote on a raise for himself in these trying times (“Mayor calls for pay raise,” Nov. 22).
There – issue resolved, rumors quelled. Now, let’s get on to more pressing matters such as the fact that the tax statements mailed out earlier this month had not one, not two, not three, but four – count them four – errors on one page and yet no one was willing to accept blame for this fiasco.
Now that, dear citizens of Waynesboro, is something to be irate about. I rest my case.

It’s not enough to defend Lucente and Allen from “rumors” and “quotes taken out of context” that were not being talked about or spread, since everybody knows full well who is pushing the pay raise, and it’s not Lucente or Allen.
So there was no need to defend the dear friends here. Not at all. And there was certainly no need to throw somebody else under the bus while invoking the holiday spirit.
I’d hate to get on the wrong side of these people, given the way their gangland tactics.
