Mainstream media faltering in duty
Published: October 25, 2009
Liberty requires a public be properly informed. However, data show low Neilson ratings on “traditional” news networks and a declining newspaper readership.
I no longer watch news on ABC, CNN, CBS, MSNBC or NBC. I no longer look for news from newspapers, other than local news. I now watch Fox and get my news from the Internet.
While admittedly conservative in its perspective, I am convinced I will at least get some of both sides of the story from Fox. I am equally convinced national news outlets have become pawns of the politicos. We no longer have a press that will go after a “Watergate-type” story. We have a press that is afraid it will be labeled as “racist” or worse, might not get a seat at the White House press briefings.
Health care and the economy aside, I am astounded the mainstream media failed to:
n report on Van Jones until the story was truly out.
n report on the number of political radicals imbedded in the Obama’s administration and what their agendas might be.
n ask why Congress and President Barack Obama will not live up to the pledge to post all bills for public viewing for five days before signing.
n investigate whether our election process has been subverted (false registration/intimidation) and what is being done about it.
n question what is going on with all these earmarks and how can so many politicians say they don’t exist?
n report on where the stimulus money is going and how effective has it been.
n investigate how badly have we hurt relations with “allies” and ask what is our actual national foreign policy agenda?
n question if the First Amendment is in danger when an administration shows favoritism to some or labels dissenting views as “subversive?”
n investigate if our Constitution has been trampled on by this administration or others.
I agree with Glenn Beck who recently said he no longer uses the term “mainstream media.”
It is a fringe media, a media concerned less with informing and concerned more with supporting. Speaking of concerned, label me as such.
