Gone are the good ’ol days

I am concerned about the state of our nation.
Gone are the days of neighbors. We have become a street of houses where we live and don’t know our neighbors, don’t respect their property and let our kids and pets run amuck without any guidance. We don’t visit with each other and talk over a cup of coffee, we don’t borrow sugar, we don’t know one another’s names.
Gone are the days of television that everyone could watch. It’s been replaced with reality TV where every other word is the “F-word” with shows that show way too much sex and glorify things they shouldn’t.
Gone are the days of helping the needy. It used to be that even those who needed it didn’t want help because it would hurt their pride. Nowadays, we help the lazy, the gang bangers and the young mothers who procreate at the drop of a hat to increase their welfare take. How many of us have been to the grocery store and the person in front of us had steak in their cart, was talking on their BlackBerry, wearing their bling and then paid with food stamps?
What happened to restrictions on handicapped passes? There must not be any restrictions because I see handicapped license plates or those blue handicap cards hanging from mirrors and the people who get out of the cars are in no way handicapped.
What about teachers? There used to be teachers who couldn’t wait to go to school every day to do their job. Now, you have teachers who are counting the days until they retire.
Athletes. They used to be the kids you looked up to, the leaders and the good students in school. They wanted to do everything right so they could pursue their talent and one day make it to the big time. Nowadays, some of them are graduating from school and can’t read.
We have become a nation of laziness, mistrust and apathy. We are in a crisis.
Gone are the better days, and I don’t see them returning for a long time.
