Global warming not most important

Patricia Hunt’s Aug. 22 column (“For sake of humanity, future ... think”) presents us with a great illustration of irony. Ms. Hunt’s admonishment to the rest of the non-thinking masses was ostensibly motivated by a Pittsburgh columnist who suggested that if large numbers of polar bears were dying because of global warming, then why aren’t there photos of their carcasses being splashed all over the place by the media? Certainly a media that is serving as propagandists in pushing the latest fantasy of extreme environmentalists (global warming) would be sharing proof of these mass “murders” if they had any, wouldn’t they? Seems like a reasonable question to me.

But not to Ms. Hunt. She attacks the logic of such thinking. Evidently, Ms. Hunt has no problem with the logic behind global warming. Perhaps that’s because there is none. The ever-growing body of scientific evidence is presenting more and more problems for the anti-capitalist, greenie-weenies. Temperatures are not rising, they’re falling. Never mind the fact that temperature fluctuations have been going on for millennia and have nothing to do with man-made influences. The real motivation is attacking corporations and “selfish” Americans for their “lavish” lifestyles. You know, sell your trucks and buy Tonka toy electric cars, throw away your light bulbs and don’t use corporate jets — unless, of course, you’re a political or Hollywood elite.

Fortunately, most Americans know when they’re being had. A July 1 Rasmussen poll revealed that 63 percent of Americans rate creating jobs as more important than taking steps to stop global warming and 56 percent would be unwilling to pay more taxes or pay higher utility bills to combat this non-existent threat. So the irony is, most Americans are thinking; it’s just not the way the elites want us to think.
