Give Dixon another four years on job
Published: October 7, 2009
This letter is to ask that you continue to support Sandra “Sandee” Dixon for treasurer of Waynesboro. Sandee is a hard-working honest person who has taken on a very large and important job. I am sure that it takes a long time to learn all that makes this job complete, and that training never stops.
I was disappointed to see her audit as front-page news (“Treasurer again gets failing grades,” Sept. 30) when there appeared to be no serious problems (misuse or loss of funds). This is a review to help her to grow and learn to perfect her office, and she has grown and learned for four years.
We worship together at Main Street United Methodist Church and share in several ministries together there. We sing in choir, share a nursing home music ministry and kitchen duty for our Wednesday night program. She is reliable, always willing to serve and works well with others. She is very personable and has a good attitude toward life.
I trust that as you ponder your vote, you will consider the fact that Sandee has had four years of experience and has learned a lot. I hope that we will re-elect her and continue to support her as she grows in her knowledge rather than start over with someone with no knowledge of the job.
Thank you for your consideration in this important decision we must make.

If she can’t bring the office up to compliance in four years, she will never be able to ‘learn’ the job. Handling all the taxpayer’s money is not a learn-as-you-go position. There is no excuse for sloppy money handling.
No, the Treasurer position is not a difficult job. It is one that an average competent business manager should be able to perform. There is nothing required that is out-of-the-ordinary for someone who is familiar with generally-accepted accounting principles.
It is a real shame that the politics surrounding the job scares away the many qualified people who can easily do this job. I hope that this new, write-in candidate is a person who has those needed business skills because neither of the other two candidates gives me a feeling of confidence that they can do the job.
