Beverage right pick for treasurer post
Published: October 28, 2009
I am writing to endorse Stephanie Beverage for city treasurer of Waynesboro. While Sandra Dixon is a fine person and has worked hard to do her job, she has had four years to improve the operations of the Treasurer’s Office and has failed to do so, according to audit reports and complaints from citizens. It is vital that this office can be run in an efficient and organized manner.
The two write-in candidates may be fine candidates but with little chance to win, as write-in candidates rarely win elections. Unfortunately, they may cause the vote to split enough that Dixon will win again and get another four years in office. Waynesboro does not need another four years like the last.
The audit findings must be corrected and Dixon has shown that is not something she can do. Stephanie Beverage has shown responsibility in her 911 role and as a bookkeeper for Jim Snead Ford and deserves an opportunity to clean up the mess in the Treasurer’s Office. The city and the citizens will benefit when this office is in order.

Although I typically respect Mr. Lucente’s opinion, this endorsement offers very lukewarm support of Ms. Beverage’s campaign.
I agree the re-election of Ms. Dixon would be a disastrous outcome for the city, but he offers very little detail as to why Ms. Beverage would be any different as treasurer.
Like Ms. Dixon four years ago, she appears to be underqualified for this position. I’m not sure how a job as a 911 dispatcher has any relevance whatsoever to the role of city treasurer.
