Answer from, to Graves

To Nelson Graves:
Nelson, your column (“Discrimination gains new life,” July 9) showed us a side we have not seen before. You can talk out of both sides of your mouth.
Your view of discrimination again shows the Valley your extremely skewed view of fairness as it applies to employment. To hire anyone based on ethnicity, rather than qualification for the position, has never been the right thing to do. To promote based on ethnicity is equally questionable. Kudos to the Supreme Court for its recent decision.
But do we detect a glimmer of hope for you? You finished your article with what most clear-thinking individuals, both white and black, have always known. Educate, educate, educate! Cream will always rise to the top, Mr. Graves, but sour milk will always be just that, sour milk. I think you know this based on the conclusion to your column.
