A myth of greatness

Columnist Nelson Graves eulogizing Michael Jackson (“Michael: Better than greats,” July 2)? Just where is he coming from? He can’t be serious listing the greatest composers of history on the same page as Jackson. It’s sacreligious.
I came up through the best popular music this country has had, the Big Band era, and it’s been downhill ever since, culminating in rap. The Jackson popularity only demonstrates that the lowest common denominator pays.
Columnist Kathleen Parker stated it well when she wrote, “Jackson’s life is a testament ... to a culture best characterized by misplaced priorities.”
As soon as the hoopla is over, Michael Jackson will be relegated to the dustbin of history, especially because of the idiosyncrasies in his personal life.
