Council could learn from Hatfield

We were watching the City Council on Monday night. We were upset with the way Mrs. Dowdy and Mrs. Smith use polities when voting for the EDA member.

Mr. Reo Hatfield is a great man and a good leader. He did a good job when he was on the City Council. He would go out of his way to help people, not just a select few. You all could learn a lot from him.

Amendment should be presidential litmus test

I read Monday's News Virginian with prodigious interest! I didn't think that this paper would conform to the reputation that has dogged the news media all over this country: "The Liberal Media."

You "spun" my letter to avoid its condemnation of "liberal" presidential candidates, namely the Democrats! The title I gave the letter was "Presidential Litmus Test," which you never mentioned in the headline.

The leading Democrats, Hilary Clinton and Barack Obama, did not support the amendment that would make English the official language of the United States. Since they can't support the amendment, in my opinion they should not be president. In the future, I hope The News Virginian will not "spin" letters to the editor.
