BOOKIN’: An annual rite starts Wednesday: The Waynesboro Public Library Book Sale, sponsored by the Friends of the Library. Swing by the library and check out great titles at bargain-basement prices. It benefits an important local group and for those who love books, it’s a chance to add to a personal collection without breaking the bank.
WALK ON: From 9:30 to 11:30 this morning, Augusta Health and the Valley Community Services Board is hosting a Walk for Recovery on the Augusta Health walking trail. Registration is at 9. It’s all part of National Drug and Alcohol Addiction month, aimed at heightening awareness. Make the trip to join the walk and to support a worthy cause.
TAYLOR SWIFT: Everybody knows about Kayne West and the raw stupidity of his outburst at the MTV Video Music Awards. Consult President Barack Obama on the best term to describe the riled rapper. How about Swift’s grace in forgiving the knuckleheaded verbal attack? You go, girl.

DIRTY DEEDS: Speaking of dear Sen. Deeds, it’s hard to imagine him as governor since he no longer seems to be from this planet. He’s running ads calling Republican opponent Robert F. McDonnell a tax-and-spender and blaming him for high electricity rates. Deeds has voted circles around McDonnell on the question of taxes, and McDonnell had nothing to do with electricity rate increases. Deeds knows this, but still the ads run, which means he’s gambling on the gullibility of voters. So that’s your strategy?
MISSING MISSILE DEFENSE: President Obama’s decision to scrap America’s missile defense plans in Eastern Europe is so awful the Russians are down with it. Not so the Poles and Czechs. Allies schmallies.
SAY IT AIN’T SO, JOE: The American Spectator brings us this week’s edition, pointing to Vice President Biden’s pre-election oracle about “an international crisis” in Obama’s first six months. OK, Obama’s working on it (see above). But he’s already almost seven months into his administration. Sorry, Joe.
