Alana Davis lives in the wonderland she built with her hands.

Every year, in far away Panguitch, Utah, she unveils a parade of dinosaur-sized characters. Elves, witches, reindeer, snowmen; all giant, all for the enjoyment of her community. But this year, per the request of her son, Kip Davis, she reached to Waynesboro, dropping one of her fantasy scenes atop Magnolia Dental at 400 S. Magnolia St.

“My mom’s been doing this stuff for a long time,” Davis said. “She started constructing the elf heads out in Utah — then she sent them and we flew her in.”

For about a week Alana built a holiday scene created from chicken wire and polyester batting. Today a smattering of elves share the rooftop with a large abominable snowman.

“When we stuck the first abominable up people went crazy,” Kip said. “We had them up 15 minutes and we had three people come by.”

Kip and his wife, Kari Davis, said they hope other businesses along Magnolia Street will follow-suit next year and construct their own holiday displays.

Back in Utah, Alana Davis has made a name for herself.

“I was kind of nicknamed the cardboard lady because I did everything out of cardboard,” she said. “I have monsters, they’re as tall as my house. Right now at Christmas I have the full set of reindeer coming around and off the house and I have the elves like my son has around his office.”

Davis said she’s planned a possible trip to Waynesboro next year to work on an extension of the dental office scene. She said she’d like to add another group of towering characters on the roof of the neighboring optometry office.

When she isn’t working on holiday scenes Davis said she’s working on the completion of a children’s book she wrote and illustrated. Her working title is “Pawowah’s Castle.”

The holiday figures will sit on top of their Magnolia Street home until the new year, Kip Davis said.

This is the best Christmas decoration I’ve ever seen in Waynesboro!! I think the fact that it’s Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer’s dentist elf makes it even better being on a Dentist’s office!!
Great job Mrs. Davis!! Wish we could see you decorations as well.
