Waynesboro City Council voted unanimously Monday to amend the agreement between the city and state for the Delphine Avenue Improvement Project.

In the amendment, the Virginia Department of Transportation will lift $26,000 of the project’s expense from the shoulders of the city, but will expect Waynesboro to accept more responsibility should the project be delayed or expenses increase, said City Manager Mike Hamp.

“If the project experiences overruns, then 100 percent of those over-costs will be borne by the locality,” Hamp said.

Hamp said the project is ahead of schedule and he does not foresee a problem with financial overrun at this time. If the project does incur overrun, Hamp said the city has $133,000 in contingency to address the financial concerns.

In other business, city council voted to postpone their decision to grant special use permits to usher into the city two new car dealerships along Main Street.

The Waynesboro Planning Commission voted in support of authorizing the permits last Tuesday and Commissioners voiced excitement about the potential moves.

City Council voted to address the auto dealerships at the Nov. 9 meeting.
