Shots are fired in Staunton neighborhood
Published: October 29, 2009
Shots fired in the area of Stafford Street in Staunton caught police attention Monday night, and now authorities are asking for tips.
The Staunton Police Department released a request, Wednesday afternoon, in hopes of finding assistance in identifying an unknown male who fired a gun at least five times Monday night. More than 20 residents called police, said Staunton police Officer Lisa Klein, sparking an entire shift of officers to respond to the neighborhood.
The shots were fired between Johnson and Heydenreich Streets, Klein said, leaving about half-a-block of bullet casings for police to follow.
The incident occurred around 11:50 p.m. a short distance from a community house established to offer support programs and anti-gang education.
“Most of the people who create the problems down there don’t live there,” Klein said. “Most people are decent people. It’s that small group that make it difficult for everyone else.”
Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to contact the Staunton Police Department at (540) 332-3842 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-322-2017. Callers providing information leading to an arrest and conviction may receive a reward of up to $1,000.
