Augusta County

The grand jury this week indicted:

n David D. Cosner, 40, of Waynesboro, by direct indictment, on one count of rape, two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of sodomy with a victim younger than age 13. The charges stemmed from conduct in 2001, police said. Cosner awaits an October trial.

n Russell Wolverton, 51, of Waynesboro, for a charge of raping a sleeping 15-year-old girl in November. The girl, an acquaintance, brought the allegation three months later.

n Robert J. Wilkinson, 50, of Lyndhurst, on six drug charges and one count of possession of a firearm while in possession of drugs. Authorities capped a six-month investigation by raiding Wilkinson’s estate in early May, finding methamphetamine, cocaine and Mexican hallucinogen salvia divinorum. Authorities seized 15 motorcycles, an Austin Healey sports car and one rifle from the “mid-level dealer” whom authorities say traded drugs for vehicles.

n Dale Pleasants, 29, of Waynesboro, charged with felony reckless driving in a fatal crash in October in Stuarts Draft. Virginia State Police said Pleasants, who has been convicted of 10 traffic offenses since 2002, crossed the center lane of Route 340 and slammed his GMC Silverado into an oncoming Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by Steven Patrick Henry, 42.

n Jason Stover Smith, 37, for seven counts of aggravated sexual battery. The Mount Solon man abused a young girl for more than three years, Augusta County authorities said. Each charge carries a possible sentence of one to 20 years in prison. Smith is free on bond.

n Carl Vickous, 36, of Weyers Cave, on four counts of aggravated sexual battery. The truck driver sexually assaulted a pre-teen girl, authorities said. Vickous is being held without bond.

n Sean A. Stanton, 33, of Monterey, on two counts of maiming while driving while under the influence and one count of second offense DWI. Stanton crashed his Toyota Tacoma into three motorcycles in Deerfield on May 30, Virginia State Police said. Two people were seriously injured.

n John Oehlerking, 73, of Staunton, for one count of sodomy with a helpless victim. Authorities said the man assaulted a mentally retarded blind woman at his apartment in May. He was not her caretaker, investigators said. Oehlerking remains in custody.

n Buffie Sue Wells, 39, of Stuarts Draft, and her son Tyler Josh Carter, 17, in separate cases of drug possession and car theft. Wells, already awaiting sentencing on two drug charges, was indicted for methamphetamine manufacturing. Carter faces two counts of petty larceny, one count of grand larceny of a vehicle and three other charges for incidents since December 2008.

n Ronald Louk, 26, of Churchville, for two counts of use of electronic means for a child sex crime. He sent text messages to a 15-year-old girl, authorities said.

n Jerry W. Johnson, 53, of Craigsville, for charges of taking indecent liberties with a child, object sexual penetration and sodomy of a helpless victim. Johnson is currently incarcerated at Lawrenceville Correctional Center for a 1994 sodomy conviction. The new charges stem from 2006 incidents.

n Ian Kasdan, 27, for possession of an unauthorized tool while incarcerated at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. Kasdan was incarcerated on felony eluding charges for a 12-minute flight from police in October. The jail charge came in March, about two months before guilty pleas that led to a two-year prison sentence.

n David Fitzgerald II, 26, of Fort Defiance, for one count of grand larceny of cows. Fitzgerald took five cows, valued at $5,000, from a Mount Sidney farm and tried to sell them, authorities said. The owner of the cows found his animals at auction, still with identifying tags, the same morning.
