Woodson requests public defender

Slade Woodson, the 19-year-old Afton man facing charges for a string of shootings in Waynesboro and on Interstate 64 last month, appeared in a Waynesboro court this morning for an advisement.

Woodson, charged in the city with destruction of property, firing from a vehicle and firing into an occupied building, requested a public defender at the 8:30 a.m. advisement hearing in Waynesboro General District Court. Woodson appeared in the same court March 31 for a similar advisement. No new charges have been filed since that time.

Judge William D. Heatwole originally scheduled a May 20 preliminary hearing in the case, but that hearing has been moved to May 12.

Woodson is also facing felony indictments in Albemarle County for allegedly shooting five occupied cars traveling on Interstate 64, slightly injuring two people, and shooting an unoccupied VDOT dump truck.
