W’boro charges I-64 juvenile

The 16-year-old who pleaded guilty in an Albemarle County court Wednesday to participation in the string of shootings on and near Interstate 64 in March is now facing charges in Waynesboro as well, police said.
Brandon Dawson, from Crozet, was charged earlier this week for the March 27 shootings at the Waynesboro Dupont Community Credit Union on Lucy Lane and an occupied house on North Commerce Avenue. Bullets struck a window and brick wall of the credit union building, as well as a repossessed van in the parking lot. Two shots were fired at the North Commerce Avenue home, where two people were asleep.
Police say the early morning incidents were a continuation of the sniper attacks and vandalism along the interstate and in Western Albemarle County that sparked a 29-hour manhunt and terrified many area residents.
The juvenile has been charged in Waynesboro with felony destruction of property, discharging a firearm from a vehicle and two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, police said. The case has been referred to Waynesboro Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
The juvenile allegedly accompanied Slade Woodson, 19, of Afton, during the shooting spree. Woodson is also facing felony charges in both counties, and is scheduled to appear in Waynesboro Circuit Court for a preliminary hearing Monday.
