Authorities arrested Christopher L. Simmons, 29, of Staunton, Thursday for one count of grand larceny and one count of petty larceny. Simmons didn’t go easy though, police said.

Simmons locked himself inside his vehicle and threatened to kill himself with a crossbow. The Augusta County Sheriff’s office brought a negotiator and a tactical team to the scene.

Simmons attempted to drive away, but police caught him within seconds, authorities said.

The Staunton man, charged for stealing $350 from Crossroads Music and Movies Oct. 18 and another $150 from the store Sept. 27, will face a judge in Staunton for his larceny charges. He’ll appear in Augusta County court for his charges in obstruction of justice.

Simmons remained in Middle River Regional Jail in Verona on Wednesday afternoon.
