A Waynesboro man pleaded guilty Tuesday to misdemeanor DWI for crashing his car into a shallow pond 150 feet off Route 250 on July 1.

Shaun Snead, 23, was fined $250, will drive on a restricted license for 12 months, is required to attend substance abuse meetings and received a 30-day suspended jail sentence.

Snead was driving westbound the morning of the crash when his green 1999 Pontiac Sunfire hit a mailbox, crossed over the eastbound lanes and barreled down an embankment through bushes and grasses into the pond, Virginia State Police said.

Police determined that Snead never slowed while losing control.

Authorities charged Snead with driving while intoxicated after rescuers retrieved a can of 3M Dust Remover from the car.
