Deputies find boy, 11, high on pot, aerosol
Augusta County deputies said they found an 11-year-old boy high from smoking marijuana and huffing aerosol while in the care of two intoxicated teenage women.
“His eyes were red and he seemed confused,” deputies wrote of the boy in an incident report.
Deputies charged Amber Nikole Cole, 19, of Greenville, and Stephanie Fawn Hagy, 18, of Raphine, with felony neglect and underage possession of alcohol. The boy’s father was at work during the incident.
The boy was treated and released from Augusta Health in Fishersville, said Capt. Glen Hanger of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said:
A report of underage drinking in the 100 block of Deer Trail Lane in Greenville brought two deputies and two Virginia State Police troopers to the boy’s home at about 7:30 p.m. Friday. The women, described as acquaintances, were found there with the boy, who claimed to have been inhaling aerosol fumes from a computer cleaning spray.
The women agreed to breath tests and were found to be intoxicated.
Hanger said Child Protective Services were alerted to the case and additional charges are possible.
Disregard for a child’s life is punishable as a Class 6 felony, with a maximum prison sentence of five years.
