Erratic driving nets DUI arrest Sunday
A Waynesboro man nearly clipped a stop sign with his car, swerved his vehicle across neighborhood streets and fled from officers before being Tasered early Sunday, police said.
Timothy Madison Brogan, 21, is being held at Middle River Regional Jail on charges of DUI, felony eluding, driving on a suspended license and refusal to take a breathalyzer test.
An officer first spotted Brogan turning his car from King Avenue onto Fir Street at about 1:30 a.m. when the man “grossly misjudged” the turn and almost ran the vehicle into a stop sign, according to a police report.
Brogan continued driving, swerved across the oncoming lane, and stopped just after James Avenue, where he put his car in reverse, backed into the street, turned, and kept driving, police said.
The chase was on, as Brogan sped away, but his flight lasted just one block. Brogan spun out on Dogwood Street, stalling his car, police said. After another brief moment driving and a second stall, he ran, police said.
Then he fell.
About 125 yards from his stopped car, Brogan hit the asphalt, allowing police to catch up. Brogan was Tasered during his arrest, said Sgt. Kelly Walker.
The incident came just six days after Brogan was charged in Augusta County for driving on a revoked license, according to court records.
His previous convictions include reckless driving by speed, improper license plates and exhaust and driving without a license.

I would be upset too in your case. I apologize if I was a little rude. You have every reason to he upset. I understand that this guy wasn’t a stranger to the law. That still didn’t give the WPD the right to taser him UNLESS he had becoome combative. Then yeah, whip the taser on him. I’m quite sure the NV didn’t get the whole story. Once again, my apologizies.

My father was killed by a drunk driver when I was 2 years old. He was on his way to work at 4:00 am when he got into a head-on collision and died. The other guy, the drunk guy, was not harmed. I’m sorry if I seem upset about another moron who can’t display enough common sense too call a cab.

You’re a sick puppy!! You’ve been watching tooooo much TV!!!
I think they should walk up to his jail cell, open the door and taser him again. But this time get it on camera so I can watch.
I repeat, anyone that is stupid enough to run from the police deserves what he gets. I don’t mean they should get the “Rodney King” treatment, but if the taser works, use it. Maybe next time the idiot will think twice before they run. Cause you KNOW their will be a next time.
I personally have known this person for 7 years and they only listed a few of his charges, there are plenty and a lot worse than a DUI. This guy is dangerous and the Waynesboro PD knows him fully and his history, that is a good reason WHY they tased him.
Sounds like these police boys like playing with their toys to me. Like it was reported this guy should have been easy to catch and arrest. Sure enough he should have been arrested and removed from the streets but I believe this excessive force was unnecessary. COME ON WPD, you can do better than this !!!
If he ran 125 yards before he fell, then he wasn’t the stumbling drunk that you think he was. He may have been intoxicated, but there are NFL players who can’t stay on their feet for 125 yards with defensemen OR police officers chasing them.
They love using those toys, opps I meant tasers , I can’t understand how they couldn’t catch and arrest a stumbling drunk without it being used. but they still must taser everyone they arrest.
Anyone that stupid deserves to be tasered.
