CHARLOTTESVILLE — Albemarle County and state authorities are investigating at least five additional shooting incidents in western Albemarle County to determine whether they are related to the Interstate 64 and Waynesboro shootings.

Police charged Slade A. Woodson, 19, of Afton, and a 16-year-old Crozet boy in the I-64 shootings. Two people suffered minor injuries in the spree early March 27.

Police did not release the locations of the five Albemarle County incidents, but indicated they do not at this time expect to file charges in those cases.

Police earlier this week added five felony charges against Woodson and the boy in three other Albemarle shooting incidents. In those cases, the pair are charged with two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling and three counts of shooting from a vehicle, creating the risk of injury or death to another.

The 16-year-old appeared Monday in Charlottesville Albemarle Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. Reporters were barred from the courtroom, though proceedings involving defendants 14 and older charged with felonies are presumed open. Authorities have declined to identify the boy.

The I-64 shootings sent shockwaves through the rural locales extending off the interstate between Charlottesville and Waynesboro. Gunfire broke out just after midnight, triggering the string of incidents between mile markers 114 and 106. At least six vehicles were hit. Authorities shut down the interstate for several hours while launching a manhunt for the shooters.

Police arrested the two suspects the following morning at the western Albemarle horse farm where the juvenile lives. Edgar Dawson, 38, was shot by an Albemarle County sheriff's deputy during the raid. Dawson, who is not charged with any crimes, suffered wounds to his arms and chest. He is being treated at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Woodson also has been charged with firing shots at DuPont Credit Union and a North Commerce Avenue home in Waynesboro shortly after the I-64 shootings.

Woodson is being held at the Middle River Regional Jail in Verona. The juvenile is being held at the Blue Ridge Detention Center in Albemarle County pending an upcoming hearing.
