Charges announced in I-64 shooting

The Virginia State Police this evening announced a host of charges against a 19-year-old Afton man and an unnamed juvenile in connection with the Interstate 64 shootings.

The man, Slade A. Woodson, and the boy each face a total of 10 felony charges in connection with the interstate shootings.

"I'm very relieved," said Col. Steven Flaherty, superintendent of the Virginia State Police, in announcing the charges and the arrest of the boy. "Certainly this was a case that gave us great concern."

The charges include two counts of felony malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and four counts of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle. Those charges are in connection with Thursday's sniper fire from the overpass near Route 690, which left two people wounded.

The charges also include one felony count of malicious wounding and one felony count of maliciously shooting at an occupied vehicle in connection with shots fired near exit 114 on the interstate.

In addition, Woodson faces two charges, filed previously, in connection with gunfire at a Waynesboro credit union.

The boy has not been charged in the Waynesboro incident.
