Local students, too, got a chance to watch Barack Obama on Tuesday when he was sworn in as the 44th president of the United States.

Waynesboro Public Schools Superintendent Robin Crowder said different things were going on in schools throughout the city.

“Our schools were doing different kinds of celebrations and talking about that, because for a lot of our children, they had heard about it and heard about it and heard about it, and they wanted to be a part of history,” Crowder said.

Some watched on television, while other teachers streamed the presidential inauguration on various Web sites. Director of Instruction Laurie McCullough was on the National Mall to witness the inauguration first-hand.

Crowder himself watched from an office computer.

“It was a great moment to be able to witness that and see that,” he said.
